The Challenge
ADIF required a fully automated handling solution for Spain’s most strategically important intermodal terminal. The facility had to be operational from launch, with unmanned crane operation, integration with national rail infrastructure, and capacity to scale with growing container traffic from both Mediterranean and Atlantic corridors.
The Solution
RIKON delivered three identical A-RMG units engineered for fully automated operation and integrated with RROS — RIKON’s proprietary Remote Operation System. The cranes were dispatched, eliminating intermediate handling and shortening delivery timelines. All three units arrived ready for on-site assembly and commissioning.
Project Significance
The Madrid-Vicálvaro Terminal is the largest single ADIF investment in intermodal infrastructure to date — over €300 million — positioning it as the primary logistics hub for central Spain. RIKON’s contribution forms the entire automated container handling fleet at the facility.
Configuration Highlights
