RIKON designed, manufactured and supplied five Double Jib Level Luffing cranes for Rīgas Centrālais Termināls (Riga Central Terminal), the largest multifunctional terminal in Latvia, located at the Freeport of Riga. The fleet was built up in stages between 2011 and 2020: two 32-tonne RPS-640 cranes, two 100-tonne RPS-1600 cranes and one 63-tonne RPS-1680 crane, with outreaches from 32 to 42 metres. The cranes can operate in tandem and today handle the terminal’s entire container throughput. Installed in RIKON’s home port, the fleet is a reference for the reliability and performance of the company’s portal cranes in day-to-day terminal operation.

The Challenge

Rīgas Centrālais Termināls, the largest multifunctional terminal in Latvia and a leader in Baltic port operations, needed heavy-duty portal cranes able to handle its cargo flows reliably and without interruption, including heavy lifts of up to 100 tonnes, with the ability to expand the fleet as its operations developed.

The Solution

RIKON delivered five Double Jib Level Luffing cranes in three configurations: RPS-640 (32 tonnes, 32-metre outreach), RPS-1600 (100 tonnes, 40-metre outreach) and RPS-1680 (63 tonnes, 42-metre outreach). Handed over in stages between June 2011 and August 2020, the cranes can operate in tandem and together cover the terminal’s entire container handling.

Project Significance

The Riga Central Terminal fleet reflects a long-term partnership, with five contracts signed between 2011 and 2018, repeat orders and the final crane handed over in 2020. Located in RIKON’s home port, it remains a key reference for the company, demonstrating the reliability and performance of its portal cranes in long-term commercial operation at Latvia’s leading multifunctional terminal.
